Yeah, it's funny uj, cause I've always had to accept that about CCR, and yet I never felt the Eagles had much more (but I know smarter folks than me do...).

CCR was sorta a guilty pleasure at the time in the Bay Area...everyone loved them, but the repetitive simplitic style, though widely appealing and capable of hit after hit on the radio, didn't have "critical respect" if you follow...we all still loved them though, and they played almost every HS in my area prior to SuzQ being released.

Good subject for another thread someday - guilty pleasures bands, sort of a truth or dare.

sure, fairly 'basic' was CCR, however, nothing wrong with 'basic' or 'simple', just depends on whose hands are on the instrument, and what else is added to the overall sound; of course, some don't want to hear anything from any musician less than julliard quality; i'm not part of that 'some' of people, and will take my pleasures both hi & lo; i'll also credit JF with far better than 'basic' guitar playing skills

you know what I find ironic? CCR always had the reputation as straight or mainstream compared to the other Bay Area bands. Certainly they had more mainstream appeal. And yet they wrote ( imo ) probably THE most perfect anti war/establishment songs of the era Fortunate Son. Seriously. Did any of the Airplane protests, or CSN commentaries sum it all up better than that song?
